Expedition 7: Leviathan

I'll be expanding this post as I move along ...

  1. The starting world is Christole Oich, Rowland-Desk.
  2. This is a permadeath expedition. You WILL lose a lot of stuff and progress every time you die.
  3. Whenever you spawn, run for your ship first, then check your expedition chart. There are certain things that are easier to do if you expect to die quickly, for example collecting whispering eggs, befriending a predator, etc. Do those now, if you get killed you lose nothing.
  4. From the spawn planet, look around: there are a TON of nice folks out there that have built bases in strategic points, either with a ton of loot for free, or in important locations that are much harder to find later. A good example: a crashed freighter. I wasted two days looking for one, yet there's one clearly marked in the starting world.
  5. You have a freighter! And whatever you build on your freighter, or any other bases you build, persists even if you die. You lose inventory and upgrades, but infrastructure survives.
  6. You have access to the anomaly from the start. Polo is going to give you plans for a new gun that you need to collect one of three new resources, these add up for community milestones needed to advance the expedition. One of the resources is collected by feeding animals, one by using the new gun on deposits, the third one is loot on derelict freighters.
  7. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE BIOLOGICAL HORRORS. If you need to harvest their eggs, grab and run, don't stick around to fight.
  8. Forget about jetpack, it'll get you killed.
  9. All stacks are much smaller, get used to it.
  10. Anything that is paid with salvaged data is inflated to hell, this is offset by milestone unlocks.
  11. Anything that is paid by nanites has similar inflation issues.
  12. There is a lot of stuff that is locked, you can't just unlock certain blueprints even if you have the currency. For example, as of now in order to have a scatter blaster it has to be a drop, it can't be unlocked at the anomaly.
  13. Every time you die you have to redo the milestones, but some are persistent, you still need to click on the milestone to re-collect the reward.
  14. The optional milestones are community driven. You can't finish one on your own, no matter how much material you donate to Polo.
  15. Expedition rewards work across all of your saved games. Once you finish the expedition you will be able to claim your Leviathan frigate at the Quicksilver companion at the Anomaly.

Leviathan Iteration Three: Call Of The Void

This is one of those things that isn't obvious: trying to just grabbing the eggs and fighting the biological horrors in Permadeath is going to get you killed . The trick is that you have to understand how biological horrors behave: they won't chase you indoors. This means that you can go to an abandoned building, build walls and roof around most of the eggs and put a door, leave one of the eggs outdoors. Now shoot one of the outdoor eggs, run like hell back indoors and you can harvest the indoor eggs at your leisure. I learned this trick from the following video from Scottish Rod , he has fantastic NMS content and is well worth a subscribe:
